Being a student is not easy, yet being a student in Quality Leadership University makes the difference. We all as students from QLU love our university because of its environment, attention, concern of the professors about their students and many other things. The attention we received  as students and also the knowledge is unique.

 

I had the experience to go to a university in the United States, University of Miami, and I cannot even compare it to the life I have in QLU. I came back to Panama because I was feeling alone and unhappy. When I came back and I resumed my studies at QLU, I felt happy again.

 

At QLU I feel so comfortable, every morning I am received with a good morning and a good attitude. Besides this, all the students are like a family to me. I consider all my classmates, my friends. I didn´t have that in Miami, I didn´t even know the people that were in the classes with me. Not everything is perfection, besides all the good things, I am sometimes struggling with some classes as many students ere, but our professors are always concerned about helping us to improve and to make us understand everything.

 

Me as a student, I also have other tasks during my days, so sometimes I feel like crazy because I have a lot of assignments. My solution when I am feeling like that is to organize myself and try to do some things with anticipation.

 

I love being a student and this stage of my life is almost finishing because I am concluding my studies in May 2019. I have gone through ups and downs which have made me the person I am nowadays. For me, QLU has an important place in my life and in my heart. Here as a student, I have learned the sense of sharing with my classmates, having good relationships with them, the professors and even the people that work at the university in different departments. This experience I have lived is the best one of all, and I will always appreciate it and have it with me in my mind and my heart.

Campus Culture at QLU

College life is more than attending classes, studying and taking exams. Obtaining a university degree at least with the new degrees takes four years of your life, a lot of time that if organized, it gives a lot of free time. You must dedicate to your academic tasks the same amount of time you would devote to a full-time job, a minimum of 40 hours a week. Estimate that you will spend an average of 2 additional hours for each hour you spend in class. The balance will vary according to the subject, however, you will do much of the most difficult work in the library or your bedroom.

 

Some people think that basically the university is an opportunity to be free. Others believe that the subjects are the only priority. Many people are likely to be at a midpoint. Whatever your position, there will be other people who think like you. Do not feel under pressure to drink or do anything you do not want to. Taking this into account, remember that the university is the stage in which you learn to be an adult on your own. Make decisions that match your values and make you feel happy. Keep in mind that, on occasions you and your parents (or other authority figures) may disagree, and there is no problem with that.

 

University is learning, culture, relationships with colleagues and having fun, too. Not only will you have fun, yet you will also develop your ability to deal with different people, keep an organization, etc. You might even notice later that you use these skills and experiences in your profession. One of the channels for students to participate in university life is through the associations of university students. There are some groups of purely cultural, social or sporting nature, while others take a tinge more related to representation and student participation.

 

This will more than often become the stage of your life in which you have the greatest opportunities to learn from people from totally different backgrounds. You will be very lucky to have access to it, so take advantage of it. Attend classes with a multicultural approach. Attend cultural events and conferences on campus. All this will broaden your perspective and will be useful to determine your own values. Even if you get to keep your ideas firmly, it is good to know the opinion of others.

QLU´s Summer 2018 Dean List

Keeping students motivated at college is not an easy task. All the homework, essays, exams and presentations make us be stressed all the time. Everybody loves to receive recognition, and students are not the exception. That´s why QLU rewards the students with the highest academic GPA at the university.

This reward consists of a ceremony held every semester to reward the effort of the previous semester. The dean´s list is the name of those students that have the highest GPA. The last ceremony was held on November 22nd, at QLU´s event room. The ceremony always wants to give students a motivation speech with special guests. In this case, the South Korean Min Seok Kang from the International Institute for the Intellectual Development was invited to address a motivational speech to the students.

After the motivational speech by Mr. Seok, our dean addressed some remarks and the delivery of the dean list certificate was started. But the ceremony did not end like that, as in any other ceremony there was lunch provided by the university to give a last reward to the students that did their best on the previous semester.

Eye-opening Conference And Job Fair at Quality Leadership University

A psychologist held a conference during Quality Leadership University’s career week opening with her confused and regretful feeling of her degree during her junior year at university alarmed the students that were attending the conference.

Magister and psychologist Carla Pino started this conference explaining the struggles she went through as a college students and then as a full time psychologist. However, she then described the little steps she took to climb the ladder of life towards her dream job, which involved attending patients.

The way she started the speech did captivate the students worryful attention, however, she then swiftly drifted to her main topic which was also the title of her presentation, El Poder de Tu Marca Personal (The Power of your Personal Brand). She explained that in order to achieve your goals, you will have to surpass a series of obstacles. One of the things she learned during her experiences is that one must build their image. “Your name is your product,” she explained, “you are your brand.” The rest of the conference was centered in this topic.

Pino explained that the reason this is important is because the world is full of people and it is necessary for us to stand out in order to reach places. You need to sell yourself as if you were a brand, she explained. According to her experiences, she expressed that there is a lot of competition out there. And, in order to get to places, as we graduate, we need to understand that we need to be niches, or in other words stand out among the crowd.

One of the students interviewed after the conference expressed that she needed this speech. She mentioned, that not many adults explain students about the real world they are supposed to face after university life. And, speeches like these ones are very inspirational and helpful for students.

The following day, on Thursday, October 11, the university held its job fair. Countless companies participated in the fair. Some of these companies included big multinationals, such as Philips, Dell, Maersk, Copa and many more. Non-profit organizations were also present in the fair. These companies, as advised by the university, were mainly offering internships for junior and senior students. They were also prepared and aware that most of these students were lacking any type of experience.

A participant from the fair was interviewed. She mentioned that the fair was very interesting and helpful for her as a junior student since she was able to apply to five companies for the internship program she must fulfill in order to graduate. However, she mentioned, that there were fewer companies this time than there were in the last job fairs. For instance, companies, like Procter & Gamble, that regularly participated in these fairs were not present this year. “I wish they had more multinational companies that offered internships in administrative areas,” she expressed.

Nour Tehfe, estudiante de administración de empresas en negocios internacionales. La experiencia se adquiere cada día, sin necesidad de estarla buscando porque proviene de sus pasiones y de la forma en la que ocupa su tiempo libre.

QLU news: ¿Cómo comenzó guiltfree?

Nour Tehfe: Guiltfree empezo bajo mi necesidad de comer dulces todos los días mientras lograba mis objetivos de perder peso y ganar masa muscular. Que por lo visto era casi imposible lograrlo. Ahí decidí crear una alternativa de postres más sanos y ricos. Si, existían ya dulces sanos… Pero no les percibía el dulce. Al principio empecé porque yo lo necesitaba, a medida que creaba más recetas me animaba a seguir intentando, cuando un familiar me dijo que debería llevar mi talento al siguiente nivel, pensé ¿Por qué no? Es una forma de hacer lo que me gusta, ayudar a los demás y ganaría dinero por eso.

Además mi inversión sería disposición, tiempo, materiales de cocina y mucha paciencia; Lo cual estaba dispuesta a invertir. No fue fácil ni tampoco fue un talento que me dio Dios, cada una de mis recetas nació de por lo menos 3 a 8 fracasos. Mi primer fracaso fueron unas “galletas de chocolate” completamente incomibles, y la receta que más me costó fueron los brownies; porque insistía que quería que se parecieran los originales. Luego con el tiempo fui mejorando recetas y a manejar mejor el marketing de fotos normales en mi cocina, decidí dedicarle más a esta área, porque al final, todos sabemos que la comida entra por los ojos. Y NO, no tengo talento para las fotos, cada foto que está publicada me toma de 30 a 60 minutos sacar una buena toma, de 10-15 minutos escoger la indicada y otros 10 minutos editándola.

QLU news: ¿Qué fue lo más difícil de emprender?

Nour Tehfe: Lo más difícil fue empezar, porque uno nunca quiere ponerse en esa situación. Cuando hablo de esa situación me refiero a varios puntos;

¿Como reaccionará el público?

¿Les gustará el concepto?

¿Como emprender un negocio cuando no se nada de negocios?

Sacar presupuestos, fijar costos, crear branding, entre otras cosas.

¿Y si no funciona?

Al final me tiré al vacío de lo desconocido y pensé riesgo/beneficio. Y era más el beneficio.

QLU news: ¿Cómo te sientes de ser tan joven y tener un proyecto propio?

NT: ¡Me siento genial! Es algo por lo cual te quieres despertar temprano y dormir tarde. Comúnmente los jóvenes divagamos mucho pensando en que hacer con nuestras vidas y mientras no hacemos nada, me di cuenta que lo mejor es hacer de todo hasta encontrar que es lo que te apasiona. Guiltfree es una de esas cosas para mí, y lo mejor de emprender desde 0 cuando eres joven es que a medida que el proyecto crece y te equivocas, tú vas creciendo con él en un ámbito profesional, adquieres más experiencia que te servirá en un futuro para negocios mayores y evitas los errores pequeños. Lo mejor de los fracasos es entenderlos, porque si los aprovechas al máximo no volverás a equivocarte en lo mismo.

Nace el nuevo periódico de QLU: “Quality News”

La prensa y el manejo de información es considerada como el “cuarto poder mundial”. Esto es debido al impacto que tienen los medios de comunicación en la sociedad, opinión pública, gobiernos, etc. Aparte de todo eso, también hay una rama de la prensa que informa a pequeños grupos o a una institución en específico y va dirigida a las personas que rodean a la misma. Puede ser en empresas, bancos, instituciones públicas entre otras. En nuestro caso, nuestro campo es un centro educativo, nuestra universidad: Quality Leadership University.

En nuestra universidad siempre han habido diversos tipos de actividades, logros y momentos destacables que los estudiantes lastimosamente no se llegan a enterar. Viendo toda esta situación, un grupo de estudiantes formamos Quality News, un medio de prensa propio de la universidad manejada cien por ciento por los nuestros. Nuestro objetivo es informar sobre lo que ocurra en la universidad tanto en institución como con los estudiantes en sí. Todo esto de una forma interactiva, que a los estudiantes les guste y puedan motivarse a leer o unirse al club.

En Quality News podrán ver información de todo tipo. Desde secciones como vida universitaria, emprendimiento, datos actuales y mucho más. Los estudiantes fuera del club también podrán ayudar enviando notas, ensayos, anuncios y demás. También contaremos con artículos tanto en inglés como en español, para que personas de ambos idiomas puedan leer lo que ocurre en nuestro día a día. Eso es lo que somos, eso es Quality News. Un periódico de los estudiantes para los estudiantes.

Un San Valentín diferente

Los 14 de febrero de suelen ser fechas donde mostramos nuestro aprecio a las personas cercanas a nosotros. Familia, amigos y parejas aprovechan esta fecha para comprar regalos, flores y demás a esas personas especiales. En QLU, al Performance Club se le ocurrió la brillante idea de vender rosas, chocolates y serenatas a los estudiantes. Los mismos podían dedicarle algo a esa persona especial o incluso hacer bromas con ello.

La actividad resultó ser muy buena, ya que muchas personas hicieron pedidos de diversos tipos. Los chicos del Performance hicieron todos los encargos en medio de las clases, entrando a los salones y llevando alegría y amor a cada clase que entraban. Entre las canciones que los estudiantes podían pedir estaban: “Just The Way You Are” (Bruno Mars), “Yo tengo tu love” (Sie7e), “Perfect” (Ed Sheeran), entre otras. Luego, en el receso, los miembros del grupo nos deleitaron con un par de canciones en los pasillos de la universidad, para luego seguir repartiendo su talento entre las clases.

Sin duda fue una actividad especial que los estudiantes disfrutaron. También sirvió para que el Performance Club se siguiera dando a conocer y demostrar que en la Universidad hay talento. Seguro tendremos más eventos así en el futuro para tener más interacción y hacer actividades diferentes en Quality Leadership University.

Opinión Estudiantil: ¿Cómo Preferirías leer Quality News?

Quality Leadership University tendrá por primera vez su propio periódico universitario, y para la primera edición de “Quality News” pensamos en pregúntale al cuerpo estudiantil su opinión mediante una encuesta. En esta encuesta, se les preguntó a los estudiantes como preferirían leer el mismo, si de manera impresa o en formato online.

Los Clubes de Quality Leadership Unversity

Todos los años en la Universidad de QLU vemos muchos talento por parte de nuestros estudiantes. Gracias a su talento, capacidad y disciplina, empezaron a formar clubes dentro del campus Universitario. Hoy día contamos 3 clubes, los cuales son: Performance Club, Quality News y Club de Debate.

Los Últimos de Towson

La graduación. Sin duda, un momento emocional para todos los estudiantes, es la culminación de sus estudios y el comienzo de una nueva etapa en sus vidas. Este 10 de diciembre QLU celebrará esta importante celebración. Sin embargo, esta ceremonia será especial para los graduandos de la Universidad de Towson, ya que ellos serán la última promoción de esta prestigiosa institución.

Towson es la 12va universidad pública más grande de los Estados Unidos y ha estado asociada con QLU por 10 años. Ofrecían la carrera de Administración de Empresas con énfasis en Negocios Internacionales para todos los estudiantes que deseaban terminar su carrera en Panamá. Además, también brindaban la oportunidad de transferirse a su campus principal localizado en la ciudad de Baltimore, donde podían escoger de su gran variedad de carreras y programas educativos.
