Justification
The Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction in Primary Education with Specialization in Mathematics, Reading and Science in an academic cooperation agreement between Florida International University and Quality Leadership University is strategically aligned with the Learn to the Maximum Program and the Panama Bilingual Program promoted by the President of Panama, His Excellency Juan Carlos Varela, through the Ministry of Education.
The content of the academic program corresponds to the components of the Learn to the Maximum Program of MEDUCA, where teachers’ knowledge and skills are strengthened in Mathematics (Reason to the Highest), Science Teaching (Discover the Max) And the teaching of Reading (Understanding the Maximum) and the transversal application and interaction of these areas in the environment (Living to the Highest)
Panama is among the four countries that showed the worst results among the 65 countries that participated in the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) in 2009. According to these results, 48% of young people entering the Labor market in Panama are unable to understand a basic text and 62% can not perform simple calculations.
All of the above reinforces the importance of this academic program to improve the quality of education in the areas of Mathematics, Science and Reading, which, if done in a sustainable manner, will greatly help improve the academic performance of young people and Thus reducing dropout, failure, and repetition rates.
