John Usher Speed School of EngineeringIt is a pleased to announce that John Usher has agreed to serve as acting dean of the J.B. Speed School of Engineering effective July 1. He will serve in this role as current Dean Neville Pinto assumes the position of interim executive vice president and university provost at the conclusion of this academic year.

Currently serving as associate dean for administration, planning and faculty affairs, Dr. Usher has been a member of the UofL family for many years, first as an undergrad and grad student and, since 1987, as a member of the faculty.

He is a renowned researcher, with more than $8 million in funded research for organizations including General Electric, the National Science Foundation, IBM and the Office of Naval Research. He is well published, with more than 100 papers and other publications to his credit.

He also is an accomplished and popular teacher. In fact, the university recognized him in 2001 with its Distinguished Teaching Professor Award for his excellence in the classroom.
