Business English
Ricardo Roman
My name is Ricardo Roman Jr. I am from Chicago, Illinois. I have been teaching English and business writing courses for QLU in Panama for over 15 years. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS) from Florida State University, a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from NOVA Southeastern University, and a Master of Arts degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland.
I have had many role models who have influenced my approach to teaching. I view my teaching viewpoint as a facilitator, rather than as an expert who simply delivers information to students. I learned this philosophy while serving in the U.S. Army for over 15 years as a Non-Commissioned Officer.
My teaching philosophy is simple, I have a strong belief in student growth and participation. My responsibility is to engage the students to try to relate class materials based on their previous experiences and their future goals. In addition, I encourage students to ask questions. Answering students’ questions is easy; however, I ask students to give their opinions. I understand that some students may not have the courage to ask questions during class. This method helps students to understand their strengths and weaknesses, which helps them improve their learning.
The importance of Business English in today’s global arena is principal. Given the increasing demand in the services provided by Panama’s business sector at both national and international levels, employers and staff need to communicate effectively in all areas of business. The aim of this course is to offer you professional development as outlined in the Language of Business English, so as to become more effective in communicating in this area and throughout your business endeavors.
I am looking forward to having you in my class to enjoy learning Business English! Good luck, and see you soon.
